Cozy Winter Wedding at La Sala Rossa | photography & videography

Artsy couple Peter & Steph wanted a photographer/videographer who could capture their day documentary style with a minimal amount of focus on photos - which is totally our jam! We captured their day on digital & film and stepped out for only about 10-15 minutes at a time in Montreal’s Plateau neighbourhood for portraits. We love to do portraits the way we did with Peter & Steph, ~15 minutes in the first half of the day and 15 minutes in the evening. We find this creates a beautiful storytelling opportunity as well as a change in lighting and often an outfit change! It’s also great here in Calgary because the sun sets so late in the summer - if you want sunset photos it’s important to know when that is happening and to allow a little time for a second session.

Thanks to Simplement Nous events for tackling such an unconventional wedding with style & grace! Pete is a musician so they opted to get married at one of Montreal’s coolest venues: la Sala Rossa and we absolutely loved it! The gold curtain on stage was such a unique ceremony spot and the couple along with some musical friends and family rounded off the evening with a band set. There was mulled wine, great food by Traiteur Brera flowers by Kyoto Fleurs and fantastic vibes all around. The most wholesome thing about their wedding was in our initial meeting with Pete & Steph they explained why they had their wedding in probably the least popular month in quebec to host a wedding: January - because they wanted all their best friends and family to have something fun and exciting to look forward to in the dead of winter. We love it when couples center their guests experience! 10/10 would photograph this wedding again and again.
